It is a printer driver that will extract Unicode and UTF-8 text from documents sent from any Windows application.
PCL Magic Printer Drivers is a print-to-text driver that extracts Unicode and UTF-8 text from any Windows application. It embeds searchable text into the PCL print stream before the printer driver generates it. This saves all the text in its natural unscrambled state. Both versions of the program, color or monochrome, call the publisher’s custom programs to insert Unicode and UTF-8 text into the print stream. This helps avoid the scrambling of text by the Windows printer drivers. The delivered software also includes a SDK so that you could include the functionality into applications of your own. With the ability to capture text before sending to the printer and then replacing them with Unicode and UTF-8 text gives developers the ability to capture text in any language. You are also able to extract it later downstream for file-splitting, auto-indexing, and converting to fully text-searchable PDF`s.
It thus helps migrate from legacy applications. It also helps dumping UTF-8 text from Chinese, Japanese and Korean language documents. The PCL Tool SDK is automatically installed. It is available in versions that capture monochrome and color documents. The utility does a good job of using correct Unicode or UTF-8 character cell assignments when extracting text. The SDK is a dynamic link library (DLL). All level HP PCL text and vector files can be converted into bitmap formats such as TIFF Gp4, in-memory DIB, PCX, DCX, BMP, PNG, MNG, JPG, XPS and TIF or vector formats like GDI, PMF, WMF and EMF. The SDK also supports conversion of RAW EMF spool files, TEXT, JPEG and TIFF file formats. This is a good product, has useful features and could be handy in the areas mentioned above.
